Evernote Review

Evernote reviewerMarc

Are you concerned about the security of your most important information? Is your computer or mobile device not enough for you? Well, you might consider using Evernote.

Evernote is a cloud-based service that has been designed for the creation and storage media files, notes and project management. Whether you are working on a text document, video, photo, audio file or a web page, Evernote gives you the ability to keep everything stored up in the cloud. Let's take a close look at this software.

Evernote General Overview

If you're interested in taking notes and then later using them to get your work done, it can be helpful to have an app that syncs across each of your devices and that features a browser version as well. Evernote does just that. And it's considered to be a leader among syncing and note-taking apps.

You can't just create notes by typing, but Evernote also comes with a snippet function that allows you to highlight any text or file in your browser and automatically save it to an existing note or create a new one.

In this review, will take the time to examine each of the most important aspects of Evernote as a service. We'll discuss its prices and plans. We'll take a look at it's design and basic features. We'll also examine its advanced features.

Evernote Plans and Pricing:

At the time of this writing, Evernote offers four plans: Basic, Plus, Premium, and Business. The Basic Evernote download is free of charge. The Plus plan is $34.99 per year. The Premium plan is $69.99 per year. The Business plan carries a $12 monthly fee.

Over time, Evernote's Basic option has become somewhat limited. In fact, many feel that there are so many restrictions on this plan that is not very useful. However, if you're not looking for an app that is too involved and just want something to organize your documents, this plan may be ideal for you. Just keep in mind that the basic plan only allows you to sync between only two devices, though you may still access your all of your notes through Evernote's web app and from any browser. Also, your won't be able to save your data offline. The basic plan allots 60MB of new storage each month.

The Plus plan gives you access to more. Sync across as several devices and upload up to 1GB of new data each and every month. Save notebooks offline and forward all of your emails into Evernote so that they show up in your account as new notes. You can also contact support through email. Just remember that you won't be able to restore previous versions on your notes unless you upgrade to Premium.

Premium offers everything that the Plus does and much more. With the Premium plan you get an additional 10GB each month. Annotate all of the PDFs you upload. Whenever you search for certain text, Evernote will look in your uploaded notes, images, PDFs, and Office. Use the presentation mode and turn your notes into slideshows with very little effort. Also, scan and digitize your business cards. And the best part about it is of you need help you have access to live chat.

Basic Features and Design:

You'll find that Evernote has various apps for both Windows and Mac. And this allows you offline access. There's also an iPhone and Android app Evernote download. However, what many people are impressed by is the Evernote web app. This software works in any browser; so that you can work on your notes no matter what device you are currently using or where you are, which is what makes Evernote stand out from the crowd.

Evernote apps look very similar to most other productivity apps, featuring a three-paneled design. You can change the point size, typeface, alignment, and add italics, bold, highlights, and more. There are some who find this particular formatting a bit distracting but I personally really like it.

When it comes to Evernote's web app, expect a minimal design. It features column of icons which give you the ability to start new notes, search through notes, access shortcuts, view all of your notes and notebooks, and take a look at your tags. However, not all of the features from the desktop app will show up in its web app. Also, the web app's search function does not work in real time, so merging notes or selecting then en masse is not possible.

Advanced Features:

Evernote is equipped with several advanced features that many of the other note-taking / productivity apps on the market don't have. For instance, you can search for your text and find it in your images, whether they are snapshots of typed text or handwritten which is pretty remarkable. What this means is that you can take pictures of presentations, whiteboards, business cards, recipes, or anything else you would like to save and Evernote will make it a searchable image.

If you're a Premium or Business user you can enable the context feature which will suggests related articles and notes based on meta-tags and keywords for the notes you're taking or viewing. Customize your suggestions so that they come from particular sources. Or you may decide to disable this feature altogether.

Work Chat is another advanced feature which places instant messaging windows into your workspace. Invite people to chat while you're taking notes and make collaborations easy. Even users on the Basic plan can use it.

Conclusion:

If you're wondering if an Evernote download is worth your time, then you should wonder no more--it is. This software is ideal for note-taking and syncing your notes across all your devices and browsers. Though it's definitely a leader in it's field, this software has been criticized over the years for price hiking, gutting out its free version, and adding features excessively.

However, it would be difficult to find another that are up to its standard. It's definitely an all-in-one service. With Evernote, you can't really go too wrong.
