Fortnite Review

Fortnite reviewerMarc

Fortnite finally goes mobile! Already released on the IOS platform, while still being in beta on Android, it is nearing it's release.

For the moment the Android beta is only open to Samsung devices, with a wider range of devices being allowed in the coming weeks.

Special tip for owners of the new Samsung Galaxy Tab S4, or the Samsung Note 9: You are eligible to receive the exclusive in-game "Galaxy outfit" for free.

If this outfit is a good thing, not sure, I leave that decision up to you 😜 .

First thought I had when i saw it was: Easy target with that glowing aura.

Fortnite on iOS already shows what Android players can look forward to, which is pretty much the game you already know from other platforms.

Everything you can do there you can on the mobile version as well. You start out in the lobby with the 99 other players and already get some target practice or simply shoot the SH** with your buddies.

Android Restrictions

On Android devices there are some restrictions, or let's call them system requirements.

Fortnite won't be playable by lower-end device models and you will to have at minimum the latest version of Oreo OS.

While these requirements are pretty heavy, it does make sense if you think about the minimum performance a device must be able to deliver for this type of game.

What's Good On Mobile

Targeting is one the features that were surprisingly easy to do on mobile, having played RoS and PUBG I expected it to be similar, but I prefer the way it is handled in Fortnite.

You have an auto-targeting mode that engages fire the moment you get a target in your cross-hairs, optionally this can be turned off and set to manual fire.

Auto running is also an option, which I love. Simply fire it up and your character is running all the time.

Game Performance

The game is very fluid and fast, character movements are very smooth and reaction time for the controls could not be better imho.

Still, if you own a game controller for your phone, it will definitely be much easier to control and make your game play more effective.

Cross-Device Play

Fortnite actually offers the option to play cross-device against your friends. So your friend can for example be on a playstation 4 and you on your mobile.

IF that is a good idea is an entirely different question, I can imagine you won't fare so well playing against someone on their console or PC and you are rocking your small screen mobile device.

Having played a little of the Android Beta and the iOS version myself, I must say the game is really a lot of fun and I have enjoyed my time.

As already mentioned, you need a good high-end device and a fast internet connection to be able to play Fortnite fluidly.

So compared to playing Fortnite on console or even PC, playing on a mobile device is never ideal. But this would be comparing apples to oranges...

For a smartphone game, it is very performant and really a joy to play on the go.
