On Android devices this app comes pre-installed. If you're a Google user (and who isn't really, at least part-time Google user), you will be excited to know that you can do everything with this app that you normally can, but much faster and intuitive in an experience that is highly optimized for mobile devices.

If you're on the go and suffer from a weak connection (Or live in a country with slower internet and 3G speed in general) Google saves everything you do offline, and executes it once you regain your connection. You will then see a notification like the one below.

Voice Search

Triggering the voice search functionality is very easy, you simply say "OK, Google" and then follow up with what you want to search.

There are some issues with Voice search here and there, for example triggering when Google thinks you said "OK, Google", but really said something else that contained an "OK" as well.

If for this or any other reason you don't always want to have to say this phrase, you can also opt to turn this feature off in your phones setting. Alternatively you can also limit the scenarios in which the "OK, Google" phrase triggers the app. For example you could set it up in your settings that this phrase can only trigger the Google app if the app is currently open.

This already prevents most of my accidental Google searches, so maybe it will be the same for you. If you're someone who's beginning most sentences with an "Okay..." it might not do the trick 😄 .

All jokes aside, there are plenty of reasons for wanting to disable the "Ok Google" voice command, and / or voice search altogether. If for example your native language is one of those that are supported but the Voice algorithm for this language isn't yet fully matured. Or maybe you have privacy concerns, after all nobody knows what really happens with all your data.

You can do both of these relatively easy in your phone settings, but by doing so you are taking away much of the power of the Google app. In these cases it might make more sense to continue to use the web search in your browser and simply don't use the Google app.

While being a burden for some, for others it is a joy to use Voice search because it simplifies so many tasks you'd normally have to type.

Nonetheless the Google app is a great tool that can make your life easier, it's super easy to use and does not come with many flaws.

Please install and use, I'm sure you won't regret doing your mobile searches in-app from now on.
