Google Play Books Review

About

You are feeling like you are a bookworm? There are situations in which you would like to have a book in your hands, but you didn’t bring it. Say hello to your new digital friend, which can fit in your pocket and has a looot of books. Google Play Books it is. The app contains the library of thousands of books within a click. If you like it, can we change the name to - digital bookworm? 😄

Google Play Books Features

The interface is easy to use. Classical white background and black text. This app is good both for phone and tablets. But more suitable for tablets, because of the device size. You can have this on a desktop computer, also.

There are features which fans of the specific publishing house, author or genre will adore. They can be up-to-date with every new novel by their favorite writer.

You don’t even have to search the Internet and google specific genre to pick a book to read. There are smart recommendations based on your interests. You get recommended books by what is in your library and what have you browsed. You can read a short preview and a couple of pages of the book for free.

Translation, maps, and highlighting are integrated into the app. It means that you can tap and hold on the word and options will pop up. Three possibilities are shown. Maps are for places that are mentioned in the text. With maps, you can create a better picture of the plot. Highlighting can be done with a couple of colors, and it’s good for remembering the phrases, quotes or for learning.

If you are an author and you have your own books, you can upload them. Choose if they will be for free or not.

Audiobooks

The audiobook is the biggest update. Brilliant invention for everyone. Play that to read to you and your kid before the bedtime. For people with problems of vision is an indescribable help. Now you can multitask at the moment- listening to the audiobook, cleaning the house and drinking coffee.

How to

Simply swipe left or swipe right to change pages. Tap on the page, minimize it and see a lot of pages and slider, then slide to choose a specific one. Finding that one page is possible by typing the page number, of course, if you know exactly which one it is. Don’t worry about the last page you were reading. It will remember where you stopped and when you open that book you can immediately continue. Sync Google account with other devices and you can read at home, in the train or even at work.

If you don’t understand the particular word, mark it and search for translation.

Set the brightness on the screen depending on the daylight. It is a typical Android app where you can customize everything you want. Starting from background, text color to text font and more. Adapt the app to yourself.

Digital books vs. paper books

Do you remember the smell of a new book? And feeling you get when you go through pages quickly to smell more? I can tell you which kind of paper it is without seeing it, just by its smell. You can’t wait to start reading. Oh, I love the entire look of the old books- coffee drops, crumpled paper, even mold’s smell.

It is nothing personal to Google Play Books, it just my attitude to every online book library and reader. It’s not that I don’t read online book, of course, I do, but I am talking about the overall experience. Especially, if I can’t find them in stores or library then Google Play Books is useful. But in the era of modern technology, something should stay as it used to be, like printed books.

On the other hand, for some people, it’s important the quality and the content of the book. They don’t care about the look, whether it is printed or not. It’s totally fine and basically the only thing that matters. If you are in the rush, or the book you want is not in the stores at the moment, feel free to check online. It’s better to read some book than not to read any book.

Conclusion

You will have your favorite book on the go, to read wherever you are and whenever you can.

Pros:

  • Ability to adjust the line spacing
  • Font size for every eyesight
  • Smart recommendation
  • Offline reading

Cons:

  • Can’t spill coffee on it
  • Doesn’t stand out from other apps
