Google Play Store

Google Play Store Description

The official Google Play Store app comes pre-installed on all Android devices.

The app is the main method to install new applications or games on your mobile device.

But this is not everything you can do with the official Play Store app, it also has a huge selection of tv shows, movies and books that you can rent or purchase directly inside the app.

Since the app is pre-installed, the app version is also tied to your OS version.

This means for older models, that you might not have all the latest and greatest features available.

The older your device model, the longer it usually takes for the play store app to be updated to the latest and greatest version.

For this reason many people download the Google Play Store apk onto their phones, so they don't have to wait.

But doing this requires you to enable "Untrusted Sources" in your android settings, which can pose a security risk because it enables the device to install apps from sources outside the Playstore app.

For this reason you have to be very careful and selective from where you install.

If you're interested in doing the above, there is a good and safe tutorial on androidauthority on how to install the latest play store app version on your older device.

Google Play Store Review

Google Play Store reviewerMarc

Many of us who use Android smartphones and tablets are used to the Google Play store. The Google Play store usually doesn't need to be downloaded as it comes pre-installed on all Android devices.

But there are plenty of other alternatives for Android users. Third-party app stores are readily available for Android users to download older versions of their favorite apps. An option that is not available in the official Google Play Store.

There you are stuck with the most recent app version the developer uploaded to the Google Play store. In general this doesn't present a problem but sometimes an app receives an update that you absolutely don't like or functionality that was important to you was removed, in these cases it's great to know that you can get the older version back.

The Google Play Store app is also only available for Android, this also makes a lot of sense as it's the official way of downloading android apps. So making it available on other platforms like Google did with Google Play Music wouldn't bring any benefits as those apps can really only be installed on Android systems.

Google Play: Much more than a simple app store.

You can look at it like the central station of your Android device, everything you do with your smart device originates there. Be it downloading the newest coolest game, watching a movie from Google Play's huge selection of movies or reading a good e-book through Google Play Books.

Community and social are huge aspects of Google's Play Store as well. This is where the Android community gets together and writes reviews about apps, get's in touch with developers to report bugs or experiences with using their software.

It gives sensible users an opportunity to check reviews before downloading an app, be it free or paid, as to not waste time with low quality apps that simply exist as spam or advertising vehicle.

Security

By using the official Google Play Store, you can rest assured that the software you're installing on your smart device was tested and scanned for all kinds of malicious and unwanted code. Apps downloaded from Google Play are always very secure and present little risk to the user.

Conclusion

Google Play should be your first address when wanting to download any app.

It's a great resource of reviews and you can rest assured that you don't download something that might harm your privacy or device.
