Snapchat Review

Snapchat reviewerMarc

Snapchat faced a lot of controversy in recent times, especially in regards to their recent redesign and child safety features.

Many parents are concerned to let their kids use Snapchat, especially because of Snapchats infamous self-destructing messages. Which many fear supports an environment not suitable for adolescents.

Parents should definitely have a look at the Snapchat Safety Center which lists best practices and things to watch out for when allowing kids access to this app.

Ads

Snapchat's growth has been stagnant much of this current year (2018) and they have started showing ads in many places that were previously ad-free. One especially annoying place is the Inbox, someone at Snapchat thought it was a great idea to inject sponsored Stories into users inboxes to generate new revenue.

Users of course, did not share these thoughts and in turn stopped sharing content.

Story Listing & Private Stories

After recent updates, more and more users complain about not being able to find their private stories anymore.

Which also causes stories of snap chatters to be viewed much less than before.

Some snap chatters report a drop of up to 40% in snap views, which almost certainly ties into the UI changes Snapchat made this year.

Disappearing Chats

The reports of snap chatters missing active chats after updating their app are accumulating.

After updating the app, entire chats and people are disappearing and only searching them by name brings back the conversation.

This glitch does not seem to affect every user though. it still presents a minor annoyance, if you are one of the unlucky ones who has to search a lot of chats by name to bring them back.

Usability

Snapchat is still a fun app, absolutely. It's not like Snapchat completely destroyed the app and user-base with their recent updates.

But were the updates good? No, absolutely not. Seeing how many users are still complaining, there is hope that Snapchat will improve on many of the recent changes.

The app itself is stable, and easy to navigate. Even after the recent updates, but it is not as easy as before. before you kind of knew where everything was, it felt complete. Now things got a little more messy and it requires some reorientation.

Conclusion

Snapchat seems to have some real internal issues.  While it's still fun to snap, much of what made it even more fun is missing. At least for the moment.
